I am against GMOs because we do not know what harmful things we are putting in our bodies by eating food that has been treated with GMOs
A genetically modified organism (GMO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. Organisms that have been genetically modified include micro-organisms such as bacteria and yeast, insects, plants, fish, and mammals. GMOs are the source of genetically modified foods, and are also widely used in scientific research and to produce goods other than food. The term GMO is very close to the technical legal term, 'living modified organism' defined in the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, which regulates international trade in living GMOs (specifically, "any living organism that possesses a novel combination of genetic material obtained through the use of modern biotechnology").
Genetic modification involves the mutation, insertion, or deletion of genes. When genes are inserted, they usually come from a different species, which is a form of horizontal gene transfer. In nature this can occur when exogenous DNA penetrates the cell membrane for any reason.

I am against using GMOs in food. We do not have labeling laws, GMO’s have not been tested for long term effects so people could be putting harmful toxins in their body. people aren't given a choice because they do not know if the food they are buying has been injected with hormones.
It is important to have labeling laws because without them people do not know what they are putting into their body. For all they know they could be eating food that has been injected with all different types of hormones and they would have no idea because there is no way to tell the difference between the food with injected genes and food without. This could cause problems because if people do not know what is going into their body they will not be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Lastly not having labeling laws is unfair because people do not get a choice of what goes into their body since they don’t know the difference between the food that has been altered with.
Having all kinds of GMO’s in our food can also cause problems because they have not been tested enough. So people do not know if there will be long term harmful side effects caused by putting all these GMO’s in our food. Until all of the long term effects of GMO’s are known they should not be put in all the food we are eating. People should have a choice to eat the genetically modified organisms food at their own risk.

Genetically Modified Foods Assignment
GMO’s are artificially produced food, who’s DNA was changed specifically to benefit mankind. This change in the DNA can range in size, texture, amount or colour.
Many believe that GMO’s are helpful for society, so that we may consume larger amounts of products, that we will have more.
But there is another side to the story, some believe that GMO’s can be harmful for our bodies.
Harmful or Helpful?
This can be helpful because this way lowers the cost of producing more food. When genetically modifying food, we create more of the product by altering the size, shape and amount produced. Also by using this method, farmers are using less fertilizers, because the products are artificially made. Lastly, by using less fertilizers, this benefits the environment for healthier soil and a healthy environment pollution free.
But we need to ask ourselves, do all of these pros really help our bodies? Is the environment more important than our health? These are things we need to consider.
Genetically modified food is harmful to our bodies by putting artificial chemicals in our system is not as healthy as fresh grown produce. By not using fertilizers, this makes the weeds grow out of control, and diseases are caused on the crop. Maybe we get more out of the product, but the food we are eating lacks real nutrients. I don’t believe Genetically altering the DNA of something is right, just let things grow naturally, or grow more of it. The reason why we are running out of food is because more and more things are being built over farmlands.
We need to keep growing our products locally and fresh in order to maintain a healthy body, and environment.
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO's)
There are many good reasons to have GMO's in our food products such as a reduced need for pesticides and greenhouse gases and a increase in food production. However there are also several reasons as to why GMO's are not safe for ingestion. Almost all foods contain GMO's, but many people are ill-informed about them making them questionable for consumption which is why some people prefer to buy organic foods that don't contain them. I think GMO's are harmful and people should be more aware of the affects this organism and the effects and threats it may pose on humans.
Many studies have been conducted in a attempt to better understand the threats GMO's may pose and those studies did not have a very positive outcome. Basically it was proven that GMO's are considerably different to the point that consumption could result in allergies, toxins, new diseases and nutritional problems. During insertion of GMO's, the proteins may be altered causing them to act differently and produce toxins. Also if a virus is injected into an organisms DNA then that virus will divide in the cells DNA which activates the virus. Another study conducted on rats showed a significant change in their livers, kidney, blood cells, testicular cells (in males), and fertility/ability to conceive (in females). When GMO's were introduced in the UK, allergy rates went up, and in a community where there was GMO's in corn there was skin, respiratory and intestinal reactions. I recommend trying to avoid GMO's for these reasons. Ways to reduce GMO's in your diet include avoiding items with dairy, unless they're organic, because cows eat GM feed, eating freshly prepared foods and avoiding sodas or other food with aspartame.

GMO- Friends or
Foes?
Alex Goncalves
GMO stands for genetically modified organism. It means splicing genetic
material from one organism—say, a plant, animal, bacteria or virus—and
transferring it to another. For commercially grown GMO crops in the U.S. There
are different things that we would use GMOs like corn, sugar beets, cotton, and
papaya, this usually means making crops resistant to pests, diseases and
herbicides, which means not putting any chemical sprays on the crops. GMO
pipeline are drought-resistant crops, fruit less susceptible to spoilage and soybeans
with more beneficial omega-3s. This is great that we do not have to use all
these horrible chemical sprays that kill use inside that is why I'm very
excited for the next couple years with GMOs because that means our kids will
not have to take all these chemicals that can lead to all these horrible
viruses and diseases.
Finally, because GMO is so new we can still improve and make this and
amazing invention it does have some down sides but over time it will get better
and will help use all.

A geneticall modified organism is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. In my opinion GMO is good, 2 reasons why is 1) pest resistence, consumers do not wish to eat food that has been treated with pesticides because of potential health hazards and run-off of agricultural wastes from excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers can poison the water supply and cause harm to the environment. Growing GM foods such as B.t corn can help eliminate the application of chemical pesticides and reduce cost of bringing a crop to the market.

2)Nutrition Malnutrition is common in third world countries where improverished peoples rely on a single crop such as rice for the main staple of their diet. Since this rice was funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, a non-profit organization, the institute hopes to offer the golden rice seed free to any third world country thats requests it. Plans were underway to develop golden rice that also has increased iron content.

GMO
Generally modified foods in my opinion are good because we no longer would have to worry about eating pesticides or terrible tasting chemicals. GMO has the power to make foods and vegetables bigger better and tastier. They can even put vitamins or sources of good nutrition within these foods. GMO could especially help out all the starving 2nd world countries with hundreds of thousand starving people. GMO would allow bigger mass on the product leaving it to help serve bigger portions with little food. I believe in GMO because it could help change our world for the better.
