I am against GMOs because we do not know what harmful things we are putting in our bodies by eating food that has been treated with GMOs
A genetically modified organism (GMO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. Organisms that have been genetically modified include micro-organisms such as bacteria and yeast, insects, plants, fish, and mammals. GMOs are the source of genetically modified foods, and are also widely used in scientific research and to produce goods other than food. The term GMO is very close to the technical legal term, 'living modified organism' defined in the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, which regulates international trade in living GMOs (specifically, "any living organism that possesses a novel combination of genetic material obtained through the use of modern biotechnology").
Genetic modification involves the mutation, insertion, or deletion of genes. When genes are inserted, they usually come from a different species, which is a form of horizontal gene transfer. In nature this can occur when exogenous DNA penetrates the cell membrane for any reason.

I am against using GMOs in food. We do not have labeling laws, GMO’s have not been tested for long term effects so people could be putting harmful toxins in their body. people aren't given a choice because they do not know if the food they are buying has been injected with hormones.
It is important to have labeling laws because without them people do not know what they are putting into their body. For all they know they could be eating food that has been injected with all different types of hormones and they would have no idea because there is no way to tell the difference between the food with injected genes and food without. This could cause problems because if people do not know what is going into their body they will not be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Lastly not having labeling laws is unfair because people do not get a choice of what goes into their body since they don’t know the difference between the food that has been altered with.
Having all kinds of GMO’s in our food can also cause problems because they have not been tested enough. So people do not know if there will be long term harmful side effects caused by putting all these GMO’s in our food. Until all of the long term effects of GMO’s are known they should not be put in all the food we are eating. People should have a choice to eat the genetically modified organisms food at their own risk.

Genetically Modified Foods Assignment
GMO’s are artificially produced food, who’s DNA was changed specifically to benefit mankind. This change in the DNA can range in size, texture, amount or colour.
Many believe that GMO’s are helpful for society, so that we may consume larger amounts of products, that we will have more.
But there is another side to the story, some believe that GMO’s can be harmful for our bodies.
Harmful or Helpful?
This can be helpful because this way lowers the cost of producing more food. When genetically modifying food, we create more of the product by altering the size, shape and amount produced. Also by using this method, farmers are using less fertilizers, because the products are artificially made. Lastly, by using less fertilizers, this benefits the environment for healthier soil and a healthy environment pollution free.
But we need to ask ourselves, do all of these pros really help our bodies? Is the environment more important than our health? These are things we need to consider.
Genetically modified food is harmful to our bodies by putting artificial chemicals in our system is not as healthy as fresh grown produce. By not using fertilizers, this makes the weeds grow out of control, and diseases are caused on the crop. Maybe we get more out of the product, but the food we are eating lacks real nutrients. I don’t believe Genetically altering the DNA of something is right, just let things grow naturally, or grow more of it. The reason why we are running out of food is because more and more things are being built over farmlands.
We need to keep growing our products locally and fresh in order to maintain a healthy body, and environment.
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO's)
There are many good reasons to have GMO's in our food products such as a reduced need for pesticides and greenhouse gases and a increase in food production. However there are also several reasons as to why GMO's are not safe for ingestion. Almost all foods contain GMO's, but many people are ill-informed about them making them questionable for consumption which is why some people prefer to buy organic foods that don't contain them. I think GMO's are harmful and people should be more aware of the affects this organism and the effects and threats it may pose on humans.
Many studies have been conducted in a attempt to better understand the threats GMO's may pose and those studies did not have a very positive outcome. Basically it was proven that GMO's are considerably different to the point that consumption could result in allergies, toxins, new diseases and nutritional problems. During insertion of GMO's, the proteins may be altered causing them to act differently and produce toxins. Also if a virus is injected into an organisms DNA then that virus will divide in the cells DNA which activates the virus. Another study conducted on rats showed a significant change in their livers, kidney, blood cells, testicular cells (in males), and fertility/ability to conceive (in females). When GMO's were introduced in the UK, allergy rates went up, and in a community where there was GMO's in corn there was skin, respiratory and intestinal reactions. I recommend trying to avoid GMO's for these reasons. Ways to reduce GMO's in your diet include avoiding items with dairy, unless they're organic, because cows eat GM feed, eating freshly prepared foods and avoiding sodas or other food with aspartame.

GMO- Friends or
Foes?
Alex Goncalves
GMO stands for genetically modified organism. It means splicing genetic
material from one organism—say, a plant, animal, bacteria or virus—and
transferring it to another. For commercially grown GMO crops in the U.S. There
are different things that we would use GMOs like corn, sugar beets, cotton, and
papaya, this usually means making crops resistant to pests, diseases and
herbicides, which means not putting any chemical sprays on the crops. GMO
pipeline are drought-resistant crops, fruit less susceptible to spoilage and soybeans
with more beneficial omega-3s. This is great that we do not have to use all
these horrible chemical sprays that kill use inside that is why I'm very
excited for the next couple years with GMOs because that means our kids will
not have to take all these chemicals that can lead to all these horrible
viruses and diseases.
Finally, because GMO is so new we can still improve and make this and
amazing invention it does have some down sides but over time it will get better
and will help use all.

A geneticall modified organism is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. In my opinion GMO is good, 2 reasons why is 1) pest resistence, consumers do not wish to eat food that has been treated with pesticides because of potential health hazards and run-off of agricultural wastes from excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers can poison the water supply and cause harm to the environment. Growing GM foods such as B.t corn can help eliminate the application of chemical pesticides and reduce cost of bringing a crop to the market.

2)Nutrition Malnutrition is common in third world countries where improverished peoples rely on a single crop such as rice for the main staple of their diet. Since this rice was funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, a non-profit organization, the institute hopes to offer the golden rice seed free to any third world country thats requests it. Plans were underway to develop golden rice that also has increased iron content.

Generally modified foods in my opinion are good because we no longer would have to worry about eating pesticides or terrible tasting chemicals. GMO has the power to make foods and vegetables bigger better and tastier. They can even put vitamins or sources of good nutrition within these foods. GMO could especially help out all the starving 2nd world countries with hundreds of thousand starving people. GMO would allow bigger mass on the product leaving it to help serve bigger portions with little food. I believe in GMO because it could help change our world for the better.

GMO?
OMG!
Whats in our food
The fact that GMO's are being used in a lot of countries and are a result of a agricultural production of a scientific research, does not mean we should all think it is right for us to consume it.
In my opinion , I think that we should stop using GMO or slowly decrease the usage of it for the following reasons.
First of all, It can cause allergic reactions to potential intestinal damage in people. Yes, GMO's may increase the size and growth of food and fruits but the fact that it is not naturally done , it doesn’t make them save for us to consume. Also for those countries whom suffer from starvation and are currently using GMO's to increase the growth of their crops because they think it will help their situation, it is actually not helping at all , it is making it worst, due to the fact that peoples defenses are weak since they lack proteins and vitamins, it is most likely for them to obtain a allergy reaction. Which only makes their economic situation worst.
Secondly, it increases toxicity. Most of the commonly consume plants by people produce toxins at levels low enough that enables them to produce any adverse health effect on people, an exotic gene is inserted into plants it causes it to produce toxins at a much higher level that can be dangerous to the human health. Now does that sound save ?
Lastly, there has been animal studies that have shown changes in the internal cell structure. Some rats have lost the ability to have babies, showed immune system responses and toxicity ,and their stomach have showed excessive cell growth, which can cause cancer, it also changes enzymes levels.
There for, this are the main reason for why I think GMO's are not save for us humans to consume , as you might of seen , a big juicy fruit that does not have a normal size is not as good as it seems.
GMO is the New Healthy
Genetically modified foods, in my opinion, would benefit mankind. It would be beneficial because the modified foods will help farmers with an increase in economy and makes it easier for it to sell. Genetically modified foods also give bigger portions and more nutrients then normal foods. It increases the amount of nutrients a human needs and the satisfaction of a great tasting food. Therefore, GMO’s are safe and will most likely change the way we eat foods but in a very positive way.

I think Gmo is a great company because it helps us with our foods and is very healthy and not dangerous.

modified food is the future pathway for all food to lead towards. It has many positive
attributes that can be used within different parts of society. With the use of
GMO’s we have the potential to solve many concerns and issues within the world.
First of all, all the environmental concerns about pesticides in the food and
the damaging effect towards the crops will be eliminated. GMO’s protect the
environment and help to persevere it by using the best material to help with growth
and population. Second it can be the solution to the food epidemics in our
world; such as malnutrition and general starvation. For you can change the
genetic makeup to increase size, longer persevering time, and add vitamins that are needed. Finally GMO’s are delicious, for they make
everything taste better, look more appealing, and are healthier. So why would you want to eliminate such
promising work?

GMO ~ Elias Khoury ~
Genetically modified food (also known as GMO) is something I am sure we are all familiar with, due to it being around us almost everywhere we go that contains food. So its all around us it must be safe to consume GMO over organic since everyone else buys it and consumes it? No, GMO has many downsides to it and unlike organic foods GMO downsides include introducing allergens and toxins to the food, possible accidental contamination between GMO and non-GMO, antibiotic resistance, and environmental risks.
But wait lets rewind a bit, you say its something around us and we should be familiar with, what exactly is a GMO though? Well a genetically modified organism is when an organism has had its genetic material altered using genetic engineering methods. By doing this you are mutating, inserting, or deleting genes. This is bad compared to organic foods that are just grown the way they are suppose to be and not any of the above which would change the nutrition of the foods we buy and eat. GMO doesn't only affect crops in agriculture though, it affects other things such as animals.
Now that you have a general idea of what a GMO is lets take a look on in what ways is it harmful to us in 2 main different ways.
To start a GMO introduces allergens and toxins to food. Now you may right away think pesticide when you think about toxins and allergens being introduced to foods. This is in one way correct for agricultural situations where something such as BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) would be removed from the bacteria and injected into the DNA so the plant would do the work. Even though it is a biological pesticide we are eating this which is just one example of how a crop for example would allow a toxin into our body. But its not just crops, animals are also considered genetically modified such as chickens or cows and such. Animals that are genetically modified can be harmful to our bodies in the long run. An example of this could be fast food we eat that includes meat which came from a genetically modified cow which is later run through harmful substances to our body.
Although the animal is genetically modified to give more meat we are further harmed by what they do with this after and is possibly what we buy and consume.
To end there is also antibiotic resistance as a result of taking in large amounts of genetically modified foods. Antibiotic resistance genes from Genetically modified foods are taken up by bacteria in the gut during digestion. If bacteria carrying antibiotic resistance genes were ever to cause infection, it would be very difficult to treat because of resistance built up overtime from consumption of the same repeated foods.
From these 2 points of downsides I can conclude from my perspective that GMO in general will be harmful in the long run as well as other external factors such as what is used before and after harvest of the crop or animal such as the cow video showing chemical use after the meat has been harvested.

Genetically modified organisms is an organism or microorganism whose genetic material has been altered by genetic engineering. Organisms that are injected with GMO's are bacteria and yeast, insects, plants, fish, and mammals. Genetic modification is mutation, insertion, and deletes the genes of the living organisms.
I do not think genetically modified organisms are safe, it is ruining our clean and organic crops. The safety of GMO injection is unproven and connects these foods with health concerns and environmental damage. For this reason, most developed nations have policies required labeling of GMO foods, and some have issued bans on GMO food production and imports. GMO injection should be promoted to all for everyone to be informed of the unsafe actions that are being done. When more people are aware of what has been happening, the better of chances it would be stopped.

Negative Affects of GMO
The definition of a genetically modified organism (GMO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques.
I am against GMO for the following reasons:
The significant increase of pesticides in our produce, which we consume on a daily bases. This increase has caused various side affects on many humans. Some of these side affects include organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging and infertility.
The harm GMO is causing many different animals, specifically chickens. Chickens are genetically modified with hormones, carcinogens, GMOs, corn pills, arsenic and drugs. This is so they become larger in size at a quick speed so farmers can sell them to buyers faster and for more money. These chickens suffer with many heath issues throughout their short lives. These heath issues include ammonia, bronchitis and weakened immune system.

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)
Based on my families past experiences having worked countless
hour in order to produce a moderate supply of food as farmers, I believe that
many farmers then would have been impressed by the absences of nutrition foods
( example: corn, chicken, tomatoes . etc.) which has been provided by the addition
of herbicides, pesticides and GMO today. However, what will be the long term
effects of animal and human injections of these genetically modified plants. The
answer to this is unclear at this time, due to the unknown effects of humans
and animals, so I feel that the risks to our future generations are too great.
Even having that positive aspect of protecting against disease also pesticides, too increasing crops yields and preventing large qualities of insecticides in the environment. There are also many negative aspects when dealing with GMO's such as possible health risks, and the many human side effects that most doctors may or may not have treatment for to control the unfamiliar gene. The dangers of the unknown genes can lead to cancer, allergic reactions and many side effects that we are not aware of. Knowing the risks for us as consumers, we obtain no knowledge for exactly what we are eating whether or not they are genetically modified, it can still causes a threat to us and other living species to be consuming toxins and chemicals that we are unaware of.

Therefore, the unknown research that concerns with the GMO
is introduced to the plant will somehow over time cause a change in our own
human and animal structures, because of this, I do not support the use of GMO's
in any produce.
Genetically modified organisms, also known as GMO’s, are organisms whose genetic material has been altered using engineering techniques.
I do not support the use of genetically (GMO's) in our produce. This is because it causes environmental damage and there is no economic value.
It causes environmental damage because the produce is raised in environmental conditions that normally would not support them. There is no economic value because it takes just as long to grow as produce without GMO.
Therefore, I do not support the use of GMO's in produce.

I do not support the use of Genetically Modified Organisms in our food supply. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are organisms who's genetic material has been altered . Some examples of organisms that have been genetically modified are bacteria, yeast, fish, and plants.
We are not aware of what is being put into the food we eat. There are no labelling laws, so we are not aware of which foods are genetically modified and which ones are not. The food we eat should be natural, with no chemicals added, or taken out of our food.

Chemicals such as aspartame and MSG are added into foods. Theses food additives can cause problems such as allergies. MSG is an excitotoxin, which stimulates people to eat more and binge, even when they are already full. Aspertame causes many health issues such as cancer, diabetes, weight gain, and many more health problems. Would you like to consume these toxins?
